Description

Construction has recently begun on the ‘Havendienst 1’ for the Municipality of Haarlem—a fully electric vessel that sets a new standard in sustainable and efficient waterway management. Designed by Sytse van de Vlas of DE VLAS Yacht Consultancy and Vripack, this innovative service vessel combines zero-emission propulsion with exceptional maneuverability, thanks in part to the CMA50 azimuth thrusters from Current Motion.

Compact, Agile, and Sustainable

The ‘Havendienst 1’ is specially designed for use in urban waterways such as the canals and harbors of Haarlem. With a length of 11 meters, a beam of 4.10 meters, and an air draft of only 1.70 meters, the vessel can easily pass under low bridges and navigate tight spaces. Its 100% electric propulsion enables completely emission-free and whisper-quiet operation, contributing to a cleaner and more livable urban environment.

Powered by the CMA50: Efficiency in Motion

Beneath the stern of the ‘Havendienst 1’, CMA50 azimuth thrusters from Current Motion are installed. These compact thrusters are specifically developed for smaller, electrically powered vessels where space efficiency, agility, and energy performance are essential. At the same time, their robust and reliable construction ensures the overall dependability of the vessel.

The CMA50 utilizes pulling propeller technology, with the propeller positioned in front of the drive leg. This allows clean, undisturbed water to flow directly into the propeller, resulting in higher efficiency and quieter operation. These features make the CMA50 an ideal choice for urban and environmentally sensitive waterways.

Maneuverability and Precision

The azimuth thrusters from Current Motion can rotate 360°, providing optimal maneuverability—crucial for operations in narrow harbors and canals. Combined with additional systems such as a bow thruster, spud poles, and a powerful crane, the ‘Havendienst 1’ is fully equipped for versatile and precise operations.

A Step Toward the Future of Zero-Emission Navigation

The collaboration between Current Motion and the construction partners of the ‘Havendienst 1’ demonstrates how innovative propulsion technology is driving the transition toward fully zero-emission maritime solutions. With the CMA50 thruster, Current Motion delivers reliable, efficient, and sustainable power for the next generation of workboats and service vessels.
